a great way to learn new things and stay in touch with friends, but it can also be dangerous. Following these basic Internet rules can help you stay safe and still have fun online:

-Never give out your photo, name, email address, phone number, home address, name of your school or your parent’s credit card number on the Internet.  It’s like giving your information to strangers on the street and you never know who will see it.

-Never agree to personally meet anyone that you get to know on the Internet.

-Do not give your password(s) to anyone other than your parents.

-Be careful with the information you give out on the Internet and if you see something that makes you uncomfortable, tell a parent or another adult you trust.

-Stop immediately if you see/read something upsetting or inappropriate.

-Set guidelines for Internet use with your parents.

-The computer should be in a high-traffic area, such as the living room, rather than a bedroom.

-When chatting online use a nickname that will not reveal anything about you.

-Be polite and respectful of others online. Don’t use bad language, even as a joke (others may not know you’re kidding).  Use proper ‘netiquette’ and respect others.
